Primary school mask mandate tough to enforce but will ‘reduce transmission’

A paediatric and epidemiological expert and the head of the teachers’ union have both warned that the state’s new mask mandate for year three to six students will be difficult to enforce, though it should help to reduce COVID-19 transmission in schools.

Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton ruled on Friday that Victorian children in years three to six will be required to wear a mask while at school and that masks for prep to year two students will be “strongly recommended”.
